5 Natural Steps To Reduce Stress Quickly
If stress, depression or anxiety is making your life a misery,
then try these quick and easy tips to help you find relief.
At the beginning of each week, make plans to do pleasurable and
enjoyable activities throughout the week. Going to the movies,
dining out, a walk in the park, a picnic, visiting a museum,
meeting friends in a bar - whatever you like. Not only will the
activities be enjoyable, you'll have something to look forward to
and the week won't be a slog to be got through.
Avoid comparing yourself to others who are in a seemingly worse
position. This is a great way of fuelling guilt. For example, you
see a report about a famine in Africa and you think "why do I
feel like this when there's people who have it much worse than I
do." Your circumstances in life are your circumstances and are
nothing to do with anything or anyone else. Comparing yourself to
others will not help you in anyway. Just realize that stress,
anxiety and depression are real problems that can be dealt with
and don't think about the situations others are in.
Brooding continually about all of the problems you face in your
life is a sure-fire way to trigger stress, depression and
anxiety. It's so important to "switch off" from problems and one
of the best ways to do this is through music. Have a music night
and listen to your favourite music. It doesn't have to be the
soothing, mellow music, you can listen to whatever music gives
you pleasure and if you want to sing, dance or play air guitar,
go ahead! If you want to just relax and listen to music with a
glass of wine, no problem! It's your music night, listen to music
you enjoy and immerse yourself in it. Try not to listen to
anything too heavy or emotional, that's not the objective here.
Music is brilliant for relieving stress, depression and anxiety
and it beats watching TV that's for sure.
Burnout is an ever increasing problem in our society. As if a
full working day isn't enough, many people return home and have
to do even more work to run the family home, prepare meals, time
for the children and a multitude of other activities and people
all clamouring for attention. So make "me time" a priority. Have
at least one 20 minute break away from your work station where
you can relax in peace. At home, schedule periods each day so you
can rest and relax. These times are so important to both mental
and physical health and they'll help relieve stress, depression
and anxiety.
Feeling as if you're trapped in a rut or that your life is going
nowhere is another part of stressful illnesses and this feeling
can trigger depression. Doing the same routines day in, day out
isn't good for us and although we do need some security, too much
can cause problems. Take yourself out of your comfort zone and
try something new. Start a course, a fitness program, try a new
sport, learn a musical instrument, go on a activity holiday or
take up a new hobby. New experiences add to the pleasure you get
from life and keep your spark alive.
You can significantly reduce stress by using the above tips as
often as you can. Try and apply at least one of them every day
and you will see a big difference.
